This piece is from a series called Century of the Self. The text that stands out to me is "I have myself to blame. I deserve more.” I understand the language and the meaning this is meant to convey. For those in a relationship where you are not being valued as you should, this is meant to encourage you to leave, to know that you deserve more, to take responsibility for being in an abusive relationship or for being with someone who doesn't value you. But for an “artist” that we know is the truest form of narcissism, this painting takes on a different meaning. After all, actions speak louder than words.
For Alexandra Grant, the person, most of us have pegged as a narcissist, this piece of art is terrifying in its revelation. It is her plans hidden in plain sight. She wants more from Keanu. She thinks she deserves more. She deserves more than being known as his long-time friend, his business partner, his collaborator or co-author of his books. She wants to be known as a goddess and a savior, the only public girlfriend since Jennifer Syme's death in 2001 (according to the tabloids). If you want to be a goddess, I anoint you the goddess of Deception. The goddess of Fake News. The goddess of the Paparazzi. The goddess of the Tabloids. Fake. Deceitful. Cheap. You thrive on the back of honest, loving people and the grave of the dead. Dearest goddess, when you lie and manipulate at this scale, you are bound to awaken some enemies. The dead are awakened. The Titans are awakened. They are coming. They will stomp on, chew and spit out all things deceitful, fake and cheap.
On behalf of @robinwood_thereturn I anoint you the goddess of the Underground Parking Lot. Robinwood, your artistic talent is greatly missed. Happy New Year everyone, welcoming the year of truth.
