In the LA Weekly article “Alexandra Grant: The Lover Whose Art Connects the World”, the word “lover” seems to be used as a subliminal message in connection to the flurry of fake news printed in the tabloids claiming that Grant is the one who mends Keanu Reeves’s broken heart. Unless the article is about Don Juan or Romeo, the word lover requires an explanation. A lover of whom? A lover of what? The article does not discuss the lover.
I find the usage of the word lover odd for many reasons, but then again, she is named as People 2019 when her claim to fame are the abundance of paparazzi photos with Keanu and tabloid stories of a relationship that may have only existed in her head.
Another phrase that stands out to me: “She sees you, she sees me, and she sees herself.” This is furthest from the truth as can be. She doesn’t see anybody but herself and what she sees is a distorted version of grandeur. @free_keanu_from_ag and others have pointed out Grant’s connection to one of the editors and that it may be the reason she was chosen, not because she is deserving of recognition.
The title also labels her art as a thing that connects the word. I concede this point is correct. There has been a unification of people across the globe, but it is not because of her art or her ability to access “a bigger thread of consciousness”. The world unites to speak up against the narcissism, lies and manipulations of Alexandra Grant and for that I thank you. You have shown me that the world has people who will not blindly accept what is written in the media, especially the tabloids. As for the “larger conversation about how to be in the world, as an artist and a woman”, we find you lacking in all front. You scheme for fame through lies, the tabloids, the paparazzi, and through using the name of a famous man. We are ashamed of you, Ms. Grant, as an artist and as a woman. You exemplify a woman climbing the social ladder to fame on the tailcoat of a man.
